talk about ballet.. i went for this performance some time back. i remember going for a ballet by male dancers while i was filming in Taiwan. that was years back. but from what i remember, i enjoyed that performance more than i did this one.

however, i think it’s amazing that guys actually challenge pointe work and make a professional career out of it. it’s not easy at all, even though it looks so effortless pirouetting or doing anything on pointe. it’s all that hard work behind those funny faces and hilarious performances that make me stand in awe of these male dancers.

i went to see dinosaurs too.. happens my 2nd boy (god child) loves dinosaurs.. so there i was.. and he loved it! it was a good trip

Best Actor won’t be Yangtian or Elvin: Jeanette Aw

Yahoo News

Best Actor won't be Yangtian or Elvin: Jeanette AwSo much for Together-ness.

It will be one’s folly to assume that the star of Channel 8′s megadrama Together Jeanette Aw is rooting for either of her co-stars for the Star Awards’ Best Actor category.

Playing her star-crossed lovers in the serial, Dai Yangtian and Elvin Ng are both nominated this year for the accolade, alongside usual suspects Chen Hanwei, Tay Ping Hui and underdog Brandon Wong. But the actress has her money not on rumoured boyfriend Yangtian, but the evergreen Hanwei.

On her good-looking co-stars, she explained, “They worked very hard for the show and they deserve the nominations.”

“Tarzan (Elvin’s role) is a very likeable character, so I’m sure many viewers can connect with him. For a new actor like Yangtian, the lead role was a big challenge and he managed it very well,” she added, when asked to assess them individually.

“But I would go for Hanwei. He’s too strong. No matter which of his three roles (Daddy At Home, My School Daze, Reunion Dinner) he’s nominated for, I think he will win. He’s such a method actor I’m in awe.”

The triple Best Actor award winner is in the running for his turn in Daddy At Home as a perm-haired househusband with a noticeable paunch.

On her own chances, the Best Actress nominee is banking on the “extraordinarily ordinary” character of Yao Jianhong, the strong-willed lass she played.

The 30-year-old believes that any chance of winning is going to have to rely heavily on “Jianhong’s simplicity standing out among the other colourful characters.” Her fellow nominees are her feisty co-star Eelyn Kok as well as veterans Ann Kok and Hong Huifang from Housewives’ Holiday and Reunion Dinner’s Chen Liping.

“Jianhong is a very simple, ordinary person, yet the role had many layers of emotions. It was very well-written.”

I feel lucky to have been cast as her, and also lucky to be nominated for her as Together was my only show in 2009. You can say that all my hopes are pinned on this show!”

She is currently filming for upcoming drama New Beginnings, where she stars as Cai Shiya, a funeral parlour worker. She quipped that she hopes to slowly move away from roles like Jianhong and The Little Nyonya’s Juxiang and Yueniang, whom she found are women too perfect to be believable.

She was the hot favourite for Best Actress for her role in The Little Nyonya last year but went home without the trophy after losing to her co-star Joanne Peh. With another co-star nominated alongside her for this year’s ceremony, we asked if she felt threatened by Eelyn’s presence in the category.

The smiley one deftly brushed away any allegations. “I expected her to be in, actually. Her character had a lot of potential and she handled the challenge very well. We had entered the industry together. Now that we’re nominated at the same time, it’s a nice feeling.”

“Honestly, I was also mentally prepared last year!” she laughs, referring to last year’s loss.

The Star Awards 2010 will be telecast live on two Sundays, Apr 18 for the professional categories, and Apr 25 for the programme and performance categories. Both shows will air at 7pm on Channel 8.

How do I tell my friends IT’S NOT ME?

By Kwok Kar Peng, The New Paper

Fann Wong learns of imposter on Twitter

FANN Wong has entered the Twitterverse, or so it seemed.

Who knew the 39-year-old star was so tech-savvy?

On her account ‘FannWong1971′ on the popular microblogging site started on 15 Feb, she wishes her fans worldwide a happy Chinese New Year, and even tweeted fellow MediaCorp celebrities like Eelyn Kok, Jeanette Aw, Joanne Peh and Andie Chen.

But read her tweets and something seems amiss. She calls Jeanette ‘darling’ and Joanne ‘dear’. Hmm, Fann never struck us as being overtly affectionate.

The wallpaper on the page is tiled with her own photo. She isn’t known to be so narcissistic.

Then there’s the excruciatingly atrocious English and terrible spelling. Okay, so Fann is no Glenda Chong. But she’s still not that bad.

A check with the actress’ manager confirmed it: FannWong1971 is a phony. But unlike another Twitter impersonator ‘FannWong’ who only tweets links to entertainment news, this new imposter has taken on the Caldecott Hill Ah Jie’s identity in her tweets. ‘She’ sends out greetings to ‘my fans’, tweets about ‘performing later’ and also calls herself ‘Fann jie jie’ (Mandarin for elder sister).

Actress Eelyn, 31, the only artiste to have replied to the impersonator, told The New Paper she had been suspicious right off the bat. That was why she replied FannWong1971′s tweet with only a simple greeting. She said: ‘Celebrities are sensitive to numbers. No one would possibly put their birth year in their account name, thus letting everyone know their age. That was the main telling sign.’ Secondly, she added, Fann didn’t use her photo as her profile picture in her Facebook account, so she believed that would be the case too if she started a Twitter account. The bad spelling – ‘tomoroow’ and ‘Gong Ci Fa Cai’ for example – was a dead giveaway for Eelyn as well as Andie, 24. The actor also thought the way FannWong1971 writes is like a 14-year-old.

Excitable

The impersonator is very excitable, with several exclamation marks and cloying endearments peppered liberally in the tweets. Though it’s not the first time that her ‘imposters’ have surfaced online, Fann admitted to The New Paper that she felt rather helpless this time. She learnt about it when Jeanette SMS-ed her after receiving a tweet from the fake. Jeanette had wanted to check if it was really Fann. ‘I wondered how to tell my friends that FannWong1971 isn’t really me,’ Fann said. ‘Still, I’m not too worried because people are smarter and more careful now, and will double-check the identity first.’

She currently has two blogs, one on the Chinese site Sina and another on her local fan club website, where she updates the public on what she’s doing. The star, who’s promoting her new movie Happy Go Lucky now, added that she’s too busy to start a Twitter account and would prefer to just SMS her friends if she has something to tell them.

Jeanette, 30, told us she had her doubts because the way the imposter tweets is very different from the way Fann speaks. She explained: ‘I think on a public level, Fann won’t call us darling or dear. I’ve played her sister twice and she calls me ‘mei mei’ (Mandarin for younger sister) in reality.’
